A 3-minute lesson from the West Virginia course. Read the rules and examples, follow the handbook page references, and check your understanding before you move on.
If you are 18 or older you skip the GDL levels, but you still start with an instruction permit. Most drivers hold a Class E license; motorcycles need a separate permit and an endorsement or Class F license.
Class E license
The regular license most applicants get, for passenger vehicles, pickup trucks, and vans. Commercial and motorcycle operators have separate manuals.
To earn the F endorsement, pass a DMV motorcycle road skills test or complete the Motorcycle Safety Foundation Basic Rider Course. The fee is $7.50 plus $1 per year the license is valid.
The Basic Rider Course is open to riders 16+ who met every Level 2 requirement except the road test and hold a motorcycle permit, or anyone 18+ with a permit. Classes run late April to early November.
You're 19 and just passed your knowledge test. Your 20-year-old roommate can't supervise you; you need a licensed driver who is at least 21 in the front seat. After 30 days you may take the road test.
Check your understanding

Take the road skills test instead
