Orange means work zone: slow down, watch for flaggers, and follow the channeling devices. Guide signs, by contrast, just tell you where you are and how to get where you're going; their colors tell you what kind of information they give.

Know the rule

Orange is the basic color for construction and maintenance devices. Most work area signs are diamond-shaped; a few are rectangular.

Put it into practice

In a work zone you see a barricade with stripes sloping down to the left. Bear to the left to pass. If a flagger then holds up a paddle reading SLOW, proceed slowly past the work area.
