A 3-minute lesson from the Missouri course. Read the rules and examples, follow the handbook page references, and check your understanding before you move on.
At 18 you can graduate to the full under-21 license if your record is clean. After that, keeping your license means renewing on time. You can't drive on an expired license, and waiting too long means retesting.
To get the full (under-21) driver license:
Be at least 18 and hold a valid intermediate license
No alcohol-related offenses or traffic convictions in the last 12 months
Your driving privilege isn't suspended, revoked or denied when you apply
Pass the vision and road sign tests (written and driving tests aren't repeated if already passed)
The Department mails a renewal reminder before your license expires (not for a temporary instruction permit or commercial learner's permit). It's your responsibility to renew even if you don't get one.
If your license expires, you must not drive. If you don't renew within six months (184 days) after it expires, you must take the written and driving tests as well as the vision and road sign tests.
While suspended, you may take the vision and road sign tests and renew a non-commercial license. While revoked, you may renew only if the revocation was for refusing a chemical test. Either way, you don't get the license back until you're reinstated.
Your license expired 150 days ago. You can't drive until you renew, but you'll need only the vision and road sign tests. Wait past 184 days and you'll also have to pass the written and driving tests.
