A 3-minute lesson from the Missouri course. Read the rules and examples, follow the handbook page references, and check your understanding before you move on.
Anyone who drives a motor vehicle or motor-driven cycle on Missouri public roads needs a valid driver license. If you're under 21, your permit or license will identify you as a minor. For young drivers, the journey starts with an instruction permit at 15.
You must have a Missouri driver license if:
You live in Missouri, are 16 or older, and plan to drive
You're a new resident who wants to drive, even if you hold another state's license
You're an out-of-state commercial driver who moved to Missouri within the last 30 days
The driver examination record from the Missouri State Highway Patrol is not a permit or license. Take it, with your documents, to a license office to get the actual permit.
At 16 or older, you can get a motorcycle instruction permit without the rider training course. If you don't have a valid driver license, you must pass the Class F and Class M written tests.
You're 15½ and want to learn to ride. You must finish an approved rider training course, pass the tests and get a parent's written consent. Even then you may ride only in daylight, within 50 miles of home, on a bike of 250 cc or less, with no passengers.
