Georgia driving lesson · Right-of-Way, Passing and Turns
Making turns
A 3-minute lesson from the Georgia course. Read the rules and examples, follow the handbook page references, and check your understanding before you move on.
Turns cause many crashes because they cross or merge with other traffic. Georgia law regulates how you signal, which lane you start in and which lane you end in. Watch for pedestrians: when you have a green light, they often have a WALK signal.
Know the rule
Give a turn signal for every right or left turn, continuously and for an adequate distance before turning. Never decide to turn at the last minute.
On a multi-lane, two-way highway, don't drive left of the center line except to turn left. With signals or signs present, turn only when they allow it, and yield to oncoming traffic and pedestrians.
You're turning left from a two-lane street onto a four-lane road. Wait with your wheels straight, yield to oncoming cars and pedestrians, then turn into the lane nearest the center line, not the far right lane.
