Georgia driving lesson · Right-of-Way, Passing and Turns
Turning on red and school bus lights
A 3-minute lesson from the Georgia course. Read the rules and examples, follow the handbook page references, and check your understanding before you move on.
Georgia allows turns on a red light in two situations, and only after a complete stop and yielding. You'll also learn what a school bus's lights mean: flashing yellow says get ready, and red with the stop signs out says stop.
Know the rule
Right on red is allowed at a traffic light unless a sign prohibits it. Make a complete stop, yield to all traffic and pedestrians, and turn only if you can do so safely.
A school bus driver turns on flashing yellow lights when preparing to stop to load or unload children. Slow down, be prepared to stop, and watch for children walking along or crossing the road.
You're stopped at a red light in the left lane of a one-way street. The cross street is also one-way, with traffic moving to your left, and no sign forbids the turn. After your complete stop and yielding to traffic and pedestrians, you may turn left.
Put it into practice
On a two-lane road, the school bus ahead switches from flashing yellow to flashing red and swings out its stop sign. Stop, and don't pass while it loads or unloads.
Check your understanding
Read the question, decide on an answer, then open it to check the explanation. These are Roadwise study questions based on the source handbook.
