Driving takes your full attention and both hands. Texting while driving is illegal for everyone, and drowsy driving is as dangerous as it sounds. If you're sleepy, the only safe cure is sleep.

Know the rule

No one may text while driving: composing, reading, or sending an electronic message.

Handbook p. 34 ↗

Danger signs of fatigue:

  • Trouble focusing or keeping your eyes open
  • Can't recall the last few miles you drove
  • Feeling detached, as if watching the vehicle drive rather than driving it
  • Crossing the centerline or dropping off the edge of the pavement
  • Missing traffic signs or lights
  • Tailgating other vehicles more closely than you normally would
  • Forgetting to dim your headlights
  • Excessive yawning, or nodding off
Handbook p. 35 ↗

Put it into practice

An hour into a night drive, you can't remember the last few miles and you keep yawning. Those are danger signs of fatigue. Pull off somewhere safe and get some sleep, the only safe cure.
