Curb colors & traffic violation points
A 2-minute lesson from the New Mexico course. Read the rules and examples, follow the handbook page references, and check your understanding before you move on.
Painted curbs add parking limits without a sign, so learn the four colors. And every moving violation can add points that eventually cost you your license.
Many common violations, like speeding or failing to wear a seat belt, carry points. Points are assigned based on the violation, and they add up on your record.
Know the rule
If you get 12 or more points within a 12-month period, your license will be suspended for one year.
Some violations, like driving without insurance or without vehicle registration, carry no points; instead you must appear in court, which can lead to more fines or a suspended license.
You're cited for driving without registration. It adds no points, but you'll have to appear in court, where you could face more fines or a license suspension.
