A 3-minute lesson from the Mississippi course. Read the rules and examples, follow the handbook page references, and check your understanding before you move on.
The handbook breaks every turn into five steps. The classic mistakes are swinging wide into the wrong lane and cutting the corner. Start signaling at least 100 feet before the intersection.
Left turn, step by step:
1. Well ahead of the turn, check traffic and move safely into the left lane, signaling the change
2. At least 100 feet from the intersection, turn on your left signal and slow down
3. Keep close to the center line, with your wheels straight while you wait to turn
4. Obey any signal or sign; when permitted, look both ways, then enter just right of center
You're stopped, waiting to turn left across traffic. Keep your wheels pointed straight while you wait. When the way is clear, turn so you enter the new street just to the right of its center, then move to the right lane when it's safe.
