A 3-minute lesson from the Maryland course. Read the rules and examples, follow the handbook page references, and check your understanding before you move on.
By driving in Maryland you've already agreed to be tested for alcohol or drugs if an officer asks. Refusing, testing .08 or higher, or having drugs in your system all lead to suspension.
Implied consent
If you drive or try to drive on a road or private property used by the public, you agree to a drug or alcohol test if a law enforcement officer asks.
If an officer has reason to believe you're impaired by drugs, alcohol or a controlled substance, a drug recognition expert may request that you submit to a blood test.
If you try to get a fake ID card, Learner's Instructional Permit or driver's license, you may be fined and/or sent to prison under federal and state law.
It is against the law to lie about your age to purchase, possess, or acquire alcohol. Besides the fines and/or prison, your driver's license may be suspended.
An officer stops you and asks for a breath test. You refuse. The officer submits a certified statement of your refusal, and the MVA will suspend your license, even without a BAC result.
