Testing in a rental car:

  • Provide a copy of the rental contract; DDS checks that it allows testing
  • Be listed as a driver on the rental contract
  • Provide proof of valid insurance for the vehicle
Handbook p. 13 ↗

Know the rule

Many rental agreements do not allow the vehicle to be used for driver training or testing.

Put it into practice

You bought a used car from a neighbor 10 days ago and it still has a temporary dealer tag. Your bill of sale won't qualify, because a third-party purchase must be within 7 days. Test in a car with a valid plate instead.

Check your understanding

Read the question, decide on an answer, then open it to check the explanation. These are Roadwise study questions based on the source handbook.

You may take the Class C or D road test in a vehicle with a temporary dealership tag as long as you provide a bill of sale from within the required window.
  1. True
  2. False

Answer: True

A temporary dealership tag is acceptable if you provide a bill of sale proving purchase within the last 30 days (7 days if bought from a third party).

Handbook p. 13 ↗
