Georgia sorts licenses and permits into classes. Each class matches the vehicles you may drive and the restrictions that apply. As a new car driver you'll deal with the instructional permit (CP), the Class D provisional license and the Class C license.
Know the rule
Every instructional permit is issued with its class letter followed by "P": CP, MP, EP and FP.
Handbook p. 7 ↗ Know the rule
Class E and F licenses are free for volunteer firefighters.
Handbook p. 7 ↗ Know the rule
Under House Bill 136 (2017), three-wheel autocycles do not require a Class M license. An autocycle is a three-wheel motor vehicle with a steering wheel, not handlebars.
Handbook p. 7 ↗ Know the rule
DDS will not give road tests that involve an autocycle.
Handbook p. 7 ↗ Know the rule
Georgia also issues Class A, B and C commercial licenses, covered in the Georgia Commercial Drivers Manual.
Handbook p. 7 ↗ Put it into practice
You're 16 and just passed your road test. You get a Class D provisional license, not a Class C. Once you turn 18 you can exchange it for a Class C.
