Teens have extra requirements. Anyone under 18 needs an adult to sign, proof of school enrollment, and the Alcohol and Drug Awareness Program. Also, whenever you renew, replace or transfer a license, DDS usually keeps your old card.
Applicants under 18 must also show:
A parent, legal guardian or responsible adult present to sign and complete a Responsible Adult Affidavit
Completion of the Alcohol and Drug Awareness Program (ADAP)
That they meet the school enrollment requirements
For a Class D, or a Class M instructional permit (MP) at 16 or 17: a DDS-approved driver education program
Also for those: at least 40 hours of supervised driving, 6 of them at night
In most cases, when you renew, replace or transfer a license, permit or ID card issued in Georgia or anywhere else, you must surrender the old one to DDS.
Maria, a U.S. citizen, holds a Mexican driver's license and is getting a Georgia license. She must give up the Mexican license. Luis, a non-citizen with a valid Mexican license, can usually keep his.
