A 3-minute lesson from the Wyoming course. Read the rules and examples, follow the handbook page references, and check your understanding before you move on.
Passing on a two-lane road means borrowing the oncoming lane, so do it only when you can see it's clear. Decide first whether passing is really necessary, then pass quickly and get back safely.
Do NOT pass:
Where signs or pavement markings prohibit passing
With vehicles, pedestrians, bridges, curves, hills, intersections or railroad crossings just ahead
More than one vehicle at a time on a two-lane road
By following another vehicle that is passing the car in front of you
A school bus with flashing red lights, unless a physical barrier or separate roadways lie between you
You're behind a slow tractor on a two-lane highway with a curve just ahead. Don't pass; wait. Once you have a clear straight stretch, start two seconds back, signal, pass, and return when you see the tractor's front in your mirror.
Check your understanding
Read the question, decide on an answer, then open it to check the explanation. These are Roadwise study questions based on the source handbook.
