A 3-minute lesson from the South Carolina course. Read the rules and examples, follow the handbook page references, and check your understanding before you move on.
School bus rules protect children crossing the road. Whether you must stop depends on the road type and on whether you're behind the bus or coming toward it.
Know the rule
Stop for the entire time a school bus is stopped or preparing to stop with its red or amber lights flashing or its stop arm extended.
You're on a four-lane road (two lanes each way) and a school bus stops across the road with red lights flashing, facing you. You may continue carefully. If the same bus were ahead of you in your direction, you'd have to stop.
Check your understanding
Read the question, decide on an answer, then open it to check the explanation. These are Roadwise study questions based on the source handbook.
