A 3-minute lesson from the Oregon course. Read the rules and examples, follow the handbook page references, and check your understanding before you move on.
Some regulatory signs control which lane you use and who may use it: turn lanes, transit-only lanes, carpool lanes and shared center turn lanes. Like other regulatory signs, they're black on white and posted where the rule applies.
Lane-use control
Know the rule
Lane-Use Control signs are used where turns are required or permitted from the lanes as shown.
Right Turns Permitted: you may briefly use the transit lane to turn into a driveway, turn at the next intersection, or pull over to park along the curb where allowed.
You want to turn right into a store driveway, but the right lane is marked RIGHT LANE BUS ONLY with a RIGHT TURNS PERMITTED plate. A bus is in that lane just ahead. Let it pass, merge into the lane behind it, then make your turn.
