A 3-minute lesson from the Oregon course. Read the rules and examples, follow the handbook page references, and check your understanding before you move on.
Oregon's standard license is the Class C non-commercial driving privilege. You apply at DMV, prove who you are, pass your tests and pay fees. If you're under 18, you also need a parent's signature, time with a permit and logged practice hours.
Class C driving privilege
Lets you drive a passenger car, moped, autocycle, van or pickup of not more than 26,000 pounds that is exempt from CDL or motorcycle endorsement requirements.
Under 18, a parent or legal guardian must sign your electronic application. If they can't come to DMV, submit form 735-173DP with their signature. If you're emancipated or married, provide proof instead and no parent signature is needed.
Under 18 and applying for your first Oregon privilege, a parent or legal guardian must certify you're enrolled in or attending school. If you're no longer in school, show a high school diploma or GED certificate.
You're 16, have held your permit for 5 months, logged 60 hours and finished an ODOT-approved traffic safety course. Your hours are enough (50 with the course, once DMV has proof), but you must wait until you've held the permit 6 months.
