A 3-minute lesson from the New Jersey course. Read the rules and examples, follow the handbook page references, and check your understanding before you move on.
The written knowledge test checks that you know the rules in this manual. It's offered in many languages, and help is available if you can't read or need an interpreter. Everyone must also clear the 6-Point ID check first.
Know the rule
All applicants for a New Jersey license must have every document needed to satisfy the 6-Point ID Verification.
If the test isn't offered in your native language, you must first attempt it in an offered language. If you fail and need an interpreter, tell MVC staff at the testing site; they arrange and pay for one and contact you with the appointment.
The MVC pays interpreter fees tied to the knowledge test after a properly completed payment voucher form is submitted. MVC-approved interpreters are also provided for Deaf or Hard of Hearing applicants.
An approved Deaf or Hard of Hearing interpreter is certified by the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf and listed with the NJ Division of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, or has been evaluated by that Division and is on its approved list.
You speak Tagalog, which isn't on the test's language list. Take the test in English first. If you fail, tell the MVC staff you need an interpreter; they will schedule one, but plan on at least two weeks' notice before your test date.
