Buckling up is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash, according to NHTSA. Belts keep you from being thrown from the vehicle and help you keep control, but only if they're worn correctly.

Know the rule

In NH, safety restraints are required for anyone under 18. Drivers and passengers of all ages are highly recommended to use them.

Why wear a belt:

  • Keeps you and passengers from being thrown from the vehicle
  • Helps the driver keep control
  • Greatly decreases the chance of injury or death in a crash

Put it into practice

Your passenger tucks the shoulder strap behind her back because it rubs her neck. Ask her to wear it across the shoulder and chest. Worn wrong, the harness can cause serious internal injuries in a crash.
