A 3-minute lesson from the Nebraska course. Read the rules and examples, follow the handbook page references, and check your understanding before you move on.
Nebraska phases teens into driving one step at a time. Each permit has a minimum age, an expiration date and its own supervision rules. Learn the ladder and many test questions become easy.
LPE and LPD holders must be accompanied by a licensed driver at least 21 years old, licensed in Nebraska or another state, sitting in the seat beside the driver.
Motorcycle permit holders must be accompanied by a licensed motorcycle operator at least 21 within visual contact. Autocycle permit holders must sit beside or in front of the licensed operator.
The LPD is for practicing toward a POP, Class O or Class M license. You may apply 60 days before your 15th birthday, but it is issued on or after that birthday.
Testing: the LPE requires vision and written tests. The LPD requires vision and written tests, but the written test is waived if you've been issued an LPE, SCP or LPD that is valid or expired no more than one year.
Jordan turns 15 on June 1. He may apply for his LPD up to 60 days before that, but the permit can't be issued until June 1. Until he has a POP, he drives only with a licensed driver 21 or older in the front passenger seat.
