Know the rule
Outside your renewal period, removing a restriction that came from a Statement of Physician or Statement of Vision requires a new Statement of Physician or Statement of Vision.
Handbook p. 24 ↗Know the rule
Law enforcement officials, physicians or others worried about your driving can ask the DMV to "recall" you for re-examination. A letter tells you which office to report to, and when.
Handbook p. 23 ↗A recalled driver must:
- Retake the written and driving tests
- Provide a licensed physician's statement about medical history as it relates to driving
- Provide a vision statement from an optometrist or ophthalmologist
Know the rule
Failing to report for the exam, submit the medical or vision statement, or pass the tests results in the license being cancelled.
Handbook p. 23 ↗Available online at dmv.nebraska.gov/services when eligible:
- School Permit, POP and Class O license (see the GDL unit)
- Changing from a Class O license to a State ID Card (digital image and signature on file)
- Renewing a Class O, Class M or State ID Card
- CDL renewal: before your 72nd birthday, no category change, no hazmat endorsement
- New Ignition Interlock Permit: DMV-authorized and licensed in Nebraska in the last 12 months
- Replacement or address change
Know the rule
Active-duty military and immediate family stationed outside Nebraska: a license valid on or after August 27, 1971 stays valid during active duty and for 60 days after discharge or return to Nebraska, whichever is later. This doesn't apply to National Guard or reserves activated only for training.
Handbook p. 21 ↗Know the rule
Qualifying service members may request Form 07-08, a card explaining the exemption, to attach to the license. Without contacting DMV, the record is purged one year after the license's expiration date.
Handbook p. 21 ↗Know the rule
Drivers 21 or over can renew an expired license without testing within 60 days of military discharge or return to the state, by showing military orders, a DD214 or other proof.
Handbook p. 21 ↗Know the rule
Voter registration is offered with every license or State ID application; the registration card is mailed within 30 days.
Handbook p. 21 ↗Put it into practice
Your license shows restriction B. That means corrective lenses: you must wear your glasses or contacts every time you drive.
