A Nebraska license doesn't last forever. When it expires depends on your age when it was issued, and you get a window to renew early. You also must update the DMV when you move or change your name.

DMV office tips:

  • Complete a data form before you visit (done for you if you booked online in Bellevue, Lincoln or Omaha)
  • Drive testing in Bellevue, Lincoln and Omaha is by appointment only
  • Avoid peak times: after 3:00 p.m., when school is out, and the day before or after a holiday
  • State offices in Douglas, Lancaster and Sarpy Counties don't accept checks
  • Over 32% of first-time applicants fail the written test, so study the manual

Put it into practice

Maya got her license at 17, so it expires on her 21st birthday. She can apply for renewal 60 days before turning 21, but the new license won't be valid until 30 days before that birthday.
