A 3-minute lesson from the Mississippi course. Read the rules and examples, follow the handbook page references, and check your understanding before you move on.
Some signs protect the most vulnerable road users: children and pedestrians. Others, the green guide signs, tell you which route you're on, how far it is to the next town, and which lane gets you there.
School crossing
Know the rule
SCHOOL CROSSING warns that children cross the street on their way to and from school. The sign is sometimes located several blocks from the school.
CROSS TRAFFIC DOES NOT STOP often accompanies a STOP sign. You must stop, but this is NOT a four-way stop: other lanes have the right of way and will not stop.
You stop at a STOP sign with CROSS TRAFFIC DOES NOT STOP below it. Don't assume the cross traffic will stop as at a four-way stop. Wait until the way is clear in both directions, then go.
