A 2-minute lesson from the Georgia course. Read the rules and examples, follow the handbook page references, and check your understanding before you move on.
School buses carry children who may dart into the road. Georgia requires you to stop for a bus that is loading or unloading with its lights flashing, with one exception for highways divided by a median, and the penalties are steep.
Know the rule
All drivers must stop when approaching or meeting a stopped school bus that has its lights flashing and is loading or unloading passengers.
Once stopped, stay stopped until the bus moves again or turns off its warning signals AND all loading or unloading passengers have cleared the roadway.
On a four-lane highway with a grass median, a school bus across the median stops with red lights flashing. You're going the opposite way, so you don't have to stop, but watch for children.
Check your understanding
Read the question, decide on an answer, then open it to check the explanation. These are Roadwise study questions based on the source handbook.
