District of Columbia driving lesson · License Types & the GRAD Program
GRAD driving hours & exceptions
A 2-minute lesson from the District of Columbia course. Read the rules and examples, follow the handbook page references, and check your understanding before you move on.
GRAD drivers have curfews. The hours depend on your stage, the day of the week and the month. Summer (July and August) gives provisional drivers the longest hours.
You may also drive during restricted hours if accompanied by a valid full license holder 21 or older, wearing a seat belt, in the passenger seat beside you.
A provisional driver leaves a friend's house at 11:30 p.m. on a Saturday in October: legal (Friday-Sunday runs to 11:59pm). The same trip at 11:15 p.m. on a Tuesday breaks curfew unless an exception applies, such as driving home from work.
