Oklahoma driving lesson · Signs, Signals and Markings
Work zones and flaggers
A 3-minute lesson from the Oklahoma course. Read the rules and examples, follow the handbook page references, and check your understanding before you move on.
Orange tells you that you are nearing or in a work zone. Signs, barricades and channeling devices such as cones and barrels guide you through safely and protect workers and flagpersons. Construction sites can be hazardous, so slow down and pay attention.
Know the rule
Most construction and maintenance signs are diamond-shaped, but some are rectangular. All are orange.
Used in cases of extreme hazards. Stands in the road wearing an orange hat and orange vest, shirt or jacket, and directs traffic with red signs or flags. The law demands you obey.
A flagperson holds up a STOP paddle as you reach a lane closure. Stop in your lane without drifting onto the shoulder, and don't creep forward. Go only when the flagperson signals you, then proceed slowly, watching for workers and oncoming traffic in your lane.
