A 3-minute lesson from the Oklahoma course. Read the rules and examples, follow the handbook page references, and check your understanding before you move on.
Parking laws keep your car from being hit and keep it from endangering others. Some spaces are reserved for people with disabilities, and certain places, from hydrants to railroad tracks, are always off-limits for stopping or parking.
Know the rule
Service Oklahoma issues a transferable parking permit to physically disabled residents, who may be the driver or a passenger of any vehicle. It hangs from the mirror and allows parking in spaces reserved for disabled parking throughout the state.
The permit application must be completed by a physician stating the person has a physical disability. A review test for the driver license may be required. You can apply online at service.ok.gov.
The law says: don't stop, park or leave a vehicle unattended in these places except to avoid conflict with other traffic, or to comply with the law or the directions of a police officer or traffic control device.
You spot an open curb space 25 feet before a stop sign at the roadside. It's illegal: you must stay at least 30 feet back from a stop sign, flashing beacon or traffic signal on the side of the road. Find another space.
