Ohio's child-restraint law ties the required seat to a child's age, weight and height. The goal is simple: the right restraint for the child's size, in the back seat, away from air bags.
Know the rule
Use a child safety seat that meets federal motor vehicle safety standards, installed properly and used according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Children who are either or both under age 4 and under 40 pounds must be in a child safety seat labeled as meeting federal standards and suited to your vehicle.
A truck, trailer or semitrailer driver may not knowingly let anyone under 16 ride in an unenclosed or unroofed cargo area when traveling faster than 25 mph.
You're driving your 6-year-old nephew, who is 4 feet 5 inches tall. He needs a booster seat, and he should ride in the back seat because he's 12 or younger.
