North Dakota driving lesson · Your License & Permits
Documents you must bring
A 3-minute lesson from the North Dakota course. Read the rules and examples, follow the handbook page references, and check your understanding before you move on.
You can't test or get a card without the right papers. You need three kinds of proof: identity and legal presence, your social security number, and your North Dakota home address. Bring originals or certified copies.
Accepted proof of name, birth date and legal presence:
U.S. or U.S. Territory birth certificate (certified)
Valid, unexpired U.S. passport or U.S. passport card
Report of Birth Abroad issued by the U.S. Department of State
Certificate of Naturalization or Certificate of Citizenship
If your current name differs from your identity document, also bring a certified marriage certificate, certified adoption document, or certified court order for the name change (court seal required).
You arrive with a photocopy of your birth certificate and one electric bill. Neither works: identity documents must be originals or certified copies, and you need two current documents showing your physical address.
Check your understanding
