How long your license lasts depends on your age, and the fee depends on how long it lasts. Renew on time: an expired license isn't valid for driving, and waiting too long means starting over.

A license receipt is valid for one year and gives you three attempts to pass all required exams. Receipts can't be renewed; if you don't finish within a year, you start over.
If your license has been expired more than one year, you must reapply as a new driver: prove identity, residency and authorized presence, and pass all tests.
Your license expired 8 months ago. It isn't valid for driving right now, but you can still renew without retesting because you're within 1 year. At 13 months, you'd have to reapply as a new driver and pass every test.
