A 3-minute lesson from the Missouri course. Read the rules and examples, follow the handbook page references, and check your understanding before you move on.
A roundabout replaces a signal or all-way stop with a circular center island. You make a slight right turn to enter, travel counterclockwise, then exit onto another road or continue on the same one. Roundabouts cut fatal and injury crashes by lowering speeds and removing left turns across opposing traffic.
Know the rule
Roundabouts have yield signs at every entrance. Yield to traffic in the circle, bicyclists, and pedestrians in the crosswalks.
Don't enter a roundabout if an emergency vehicle is approaching. If you're already inside, exit immediately and pull to the right. Never stop inside the roundabout.
You're in a roundabout and miss your exit. Don't stop or back up. Keep circling to the right of the island until you come back to your exit, then signal right and leave.
Check your understanding
Read the question, decide on an answer, then open it to check the explanation. These are Roadwise study questions based on the source handbook.
