Once you're licensed, you can renew early. Mississippi also makes allowances for people away on military service, for military families and college students from other states, and for non-citizens who are legally present.

How early a license may be renewed before its expiration date
If your valid license expires while you're out of state on military service, you may renew it any time within 90 days of being discharged or of returning to the state.
Non-resident military personnel and their families may drive in Mississippi with a valid license from another state. Out-of-state college students may drive here with their out-of-state license. The same policy applies to auto license plates.
For a Regular Driver's License, a non-citizen needs Permanent Resident/Green Card status, OR valid immigration papers showing their legally permitted length of stay in the United States.
You're stationed in Texas when your Mississippi license expires. After your discharge you come home. You have 90 days from discharge or return to renew: bring proof of service and an affidavit of your discharge or return. You pay no delinquent fee and normally take no exam.
