On a hill, the direction of your front wheels decides where your car goes if it starts to roll. Mississippi's rule is simple: turn your wheels sharply to the RIGHT in every case except one, uphill with a curb.

Then, as whenever you park:

  • Put the gear in park (automatic) or low (standard transmission)
  • Set the parking brake firmly
  • Turn off the ignition

Put it into practice

You park facing uphill on a street with a curb: turn your wheels sharply left, set the parking brake firmly and shift into park. Facing downhill on the same street, you'd turn them sharply right.
