A 3-minute lesson from the Idaho course. Read the rules and examples, follow the handbook page references, and check your understanding before you move on.
When you get behind the wheel, you take responsibility for the lives of people around you. Safe driving takes knowing the rules, following proper procedures, and a good attitude: courtesy and consideration are essential.
Be patient and don't let heavy traffic get on your nerves. Never change your mind at the last minute or act too quickly, and depend on your own alertness, not warnings or signals from other drivers.
Inside, adjust your seat and mirrors, buckle your safety belt, and check that passengers are seated and buckled so they won't interfere with your driving.
Worry, quarrels, financial problems, illness in the family, personal fears, or overconfidence make a crash far more likely. If you're upset, let someone else drive.
You're pulling away from the curb in a residential area. Check your mirrors, signal for at least five seconds or 100 feet, look over your left shoulder, merge smoothly when there's a gap, then cancel the signal.
Check your understanding
Read the question, decide on an answer, then open it to check the explanation. These are Roadwise study questions based on the source handbook.

other drivers' signals
