A 4-minute lesson from the Florida course. Read the rules and examples, follow the handbook page references, and check your understanding before you move on.
If Florida is your home, you need a Florida driver license to drive on public streets and highways. Some visitors and commuters can keep using the license they have. Most new drivers get Class E, the license for ordinary non-commercial vehicles.
Resident
Someone whose main home has been in Florida for more than six consecutive months, or who registered to vote, made a statement of domicile, or filed for homestead exemption here.
A non-resident who takes a job or runs a trade or business in Florida, or who enrolls a child in a Florida public school, must get a Florida driver license within 30 days. Migrant or seasonal farm workers are the exception.
A non-resident who is at least 16 may drive in Florida on a valid non-commercial license from another US state or territory, or on an International Driving Permit plus a valid license from their home country.
To drive any two- or three-wheeled motorcycle with an engine over 50 cc, you need a motorcycle endorsement on your license or a 'Motorcycle Only' license.
You move from Georgia to Florida for a new job. Because you now work here, you must get a Florida license within 30 days. You skip the knowledge and skills exams because Georgia is a US state, but you still take the vision exam and turn in your Georgia license.
