A distraction is anything that pulls your attention from driving. It endangers you, your passengers, pedestrians and bicyclists. Florida sorts distractions into three types. Texting is especially dangerous because it involves all three at once.

Cognitive distraction

Letting your mind wander to anything other than driving, such as daydreaming, even while your eyes are on the road and your hands are on the wheel.

Handbook p. 42 ↗

Put it into practice

You're driving through an active work zone and your phone rings. Holding the phone to your ear there breaks the law even if you aren't texting. Let it go to voicemail, or pull over safely first.
