The road skills test is given on DC roads. It covers maneuvers, driving in traffic, using turn signals, safely controlling the vehicle and parallel parking. It's by appointment only, and you need a valid learner permit to book it.
Know the rule
The road skills test is generally waived if you hold a valid out-of-state license for the same class of license and are converting it to a DC license.
Handbook p. 12 ↗ Know the rule
Road tests are scheduled by appointment only, and you must have a valid learner permit to schedule. Book online at www.dmv.dc.gov or by calling 311; cancel by calling 311.
Handbook p. 12 ↗ $30 Cancellation fee if you don't cancel at least two business days ahead (no fee if DMV cancels)

Handbook p. 13 ↗ 12 months Wait after 6 consecutive failed road tests (from the first failed test)
Handbook p. 13 ↗ Your road test may be cancelled if: The examiner believes he or she would have trouble reaching the brake or stopping the vehicle in an emergency Inclement weather or other circumstances beyond DMV's control make the road dangerous You and your vehicle have not met all of the road test requirements Handbook p. 13 ↗ Put it into practice
You fail your road test at 9:00 a.m. Monday. You can't retest until 72 hours have passed, so 9:00 a.m. Thursday is the earliest. Cancelling a later appointment only one business day ahead would cost you $30.
A useful reminder Knowledge-test retest wait = 3 calendar days. Road-test retest wait = 72 hours. Both lock you out for 12 months after 6 straight failures.
