A 3-minute lesson from the Delaware course. Read the rules and examples, follow the handbook page references, and check your understanding before you move on.
Where no signs or markings say otherwise, Delaware has default rules: keep right, pass on the left, turn from the nearest lane, and never back up or stop in a travel lane. And always signal 300 feet ahead.
300 ft
Distance you must signal before your intended action
Overtake other vehicles on the left, only at a safe distance, and return to the right only when safely clear. A vehicle being overtaken must give way to the right and not speed up until fully passed.
Never back up in a travel lane except to parallel park or, if necessary, to exit a driveway. If you miss your turn or exit, go on to where you can safely turn around.
With two or more lanes in your direction, stay in the right lane except to pass. With three or more lanes and heavy entering and exiting traffic, use the center lane.
Median crossings: if marked for emergency vehicles only, you may not cross there. Otherwise keep to the right, treating the median opening like a roadway.
You're turning right into a shopping center driveway. Start signaling at least 300 feet before the turn, stay close to the right, and don't swing wide into the left lane first.
