Alaska lets you take the knowledge test online and book road tests online. Once you're licensed, you're responsible for keeping DMV up to date when your name or address changes.

The KnowToDrive online test (ak.knowtodrive.com) lets you:

  • Take the test anywhere, any time, on your own device
  • Choose from multiple languages and turn on audio playback
  • Get immediate pass/fail results and next steps
  • Avoid multiple trips to the DMV
Handbook p. 12 ↗

Booking a DMV road test online:

  • Schedule from 24 hours before up to 60 days in advance (some locations)
  • Get a reminder email 3 days before your appointment
  • Reschedule up to 24 hours before the test
  • Cancelled tests are not refunded; you can also schedule by calling 907-269-5551
Handbook p. 12 ↗

DMV keeps your road test fee if you:

  • Cancel within 72 hours of the test
  • Fail to appear
  • Fail the test because of an unsafe vehicle
  • Carry improper registration or lack proof of insurance
Handbook p. 12 ↗
