A 2-minute lesson from the Alaska course. Read the rules and examples, follow the handbook page references, and check your understanding before you move on.
An ignition interlock device (IID) keeps a vehicle from being driven by someone who has been drinking. After any DUI or Refusal conviction, Alaska requires one on every vehicle you drive, and the time grows with each conviction.
Know the rule
When convicted of a DUI or Refusal, you must use an ignition interlock device on any vehicle you operate (AS 28.35.030(b) and/or AS 28.35.032(g)).
After your third DUI conviction you borrow a relative's pickup. The IID rule applies to any vehicle you operate, so that truck must have an IID too, and your period is 18 months.
