Every new driver passes two exams and a vision screening. The knowledge exam tests Washington's rules of the road; the skills exam tests whether you can apply them in a real car. You can also add medical designations or endorsements to your license.

Know the rule

You must pass the Driving Knowledge Exam before you can take the Driving Skills Exam.

Your parent wants to sit in the back seat during your skills exam to keep you calm. That isn't allowed: only you and the examiner ride along, except for a service animal or a sign language interpreter.
