Oklahoma driving lesson · Getting Your Oklahoma License
Motorcycle licenses and ID cards
A 4-minute lesson from the Oklahoma course. Read the rules and examples, follow the handbook page references, and check your understanding before you move on.
You can ride legally in Oklahoma with a motorcycle endorsement on a regular license, or, from age 14, with a motorcycle learner permit or a motorcycle-only license. Young riders face size, time and passenger limits until 16.
Know the rule
A motorcycle endorsement is added to a Class A, B, C or D license. SOK may waive the knowledge and skills tests if you complete an approved Motorcycle Safety Foundation course.
A motorcycle-only license (minimum age 14) requires the vision, written and skills tests. On the driving test you must prove you can operate a cycle safely.
If the motor scooter or motorcycle is less than 150 cc, you also may not exceed 35 mph and may not ride on a highway with a posted minimum speed limit.
A motorcycle learner permit (minimum age 14) requires instruction from a parent, legal guardian or any person 21 or older with a valid Oklahoma license with a motorcycle endorsement, who has visual contact with you.
Ages 14-15 must have the learner restriction. A custodial parent or legal guardian signs the application, agrees the conditions will be followed, and accepts financial and legal responsibility if you violate the law or cause damage or injury.
You must see a driver license examiner to have a #9 restriction added to your motorcycle license at 16 (15 if receiving instruction in an approved driver education course).
An Oklahoma ID card is for identification only. You must be an Oklahoma resident, show the same ID required for a license, apply in person, and have a custodial parent or guardian sign consent if under 18.
You're 14 with a motorcycle-only license and a 250 cc bike. You may ride at posted speed limits between 4:30 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., with a helmet and no passenger, but not on an interstate or turnpike because those have posted minimum speeds.
