Level Two is your first chance to drive alone, but only during set hours and with passenger limits. Level Three removes those limits, though drivers under 18 still can't use a phone.
Know the rule
Level Two drivers may also drive unsupervised at any hour when going directly to or from work, or to or from a volunteer fire, rescue or emergency medical service they belong to.
Handbook p. 8 ↗ 6 months Minimum time holding Level Two before applying for a Full Provisional License
Handbook p. 8 ↗ 12 hours Level Two driving log, with at least 6 hours at night
Handbook p. 8 ↗ Know the rule
All passengers must be in a seat belt or child safety seat, and when supervised, the supervising driver must sit beside the driver.
Handbook p. 8 ↗ Level Two passenger rules when driving unsupervised: Only one passenger under 21 who is not a member of your household One more non-household passenger under 21 is allowed if they're a student driven directly to or from school No under-21 limit if all passengers are members of your household Under-21 household members may not ride when under-21 non-household members are in the car Handbook p. 8 ↗ Know the rule
To graduate to Level Three, you need no moving violation, seat belt or cell phone convictions in the preceding six months.
Handbook p. 8 ↗ Know the rule
Level Three removes the Level One and Two limits on time of driving, supervision and passengers.
Handbook p. 8 ↗ Put it into practice
At Level Two you drive alone at 7 p.m. with your 17-year-old neighbor. Adding a second non-household friend under 21 is only allowed if that friend is a student you're driving directly to or from school.
A useful reminder Level Two log is 12 hours with 6 at night, much smaller than Level One's 60 with 10 at night. Don't mix them up.
