Taking the license tests
A 3-minute lesson from the New Hampshire course. Read the rules and examples, follow the handbook page references, and check your understanding before you move on.
To get a regular (non-commercial) NH license you must pass three tests: vision, knowledge and road. Knowing the format ahead of time takes the surprise out of test day.
If you need glasses or contacts to pass the vision test, you must wear them while driving and your license gets the "B" (corrective lenses) restriction.
The road test takes about 20 minutes. The examiner gives instructions but cannot coach you, and questions are answered only before or after the test, unless you need a direction clarified.
No one under 18 gets a license without written permission from a parent or guardian (or another responsible adult if there is none), plus proof of insurance at application, unless emancipated by marriage.
You miss your 9th knowledge question at minute 25. The test ends automatically, because more than 8 wrong answers ends it, and your retest can be no sooner than 10 days later.
Check your understanding
Read the question, decide on an answer, then open it to check the explanation. These are Roadwise study questions based on the source handbook.
