A 3-minute lesson from the Mississippi course. Read the rules and examples, follow the handbook page references, and check your understanding before you move on.
Mississippi sets minimum standards for your vehicle's brakes, horn, lights, muffler, wipers and tires. The distances here are classic test questions, so learn them exactly.
Know the rule
Your vehicle must have both a foot brake AND a parking brake.
Your muffler must be in good working order and operate constantly to prevent excessive or unusual noise and annoying smoke. Muffler cutouts, bypasses or similar devices are not allowed.
Mississippi law doesn't require a rearview mirror, but one is recommended. If you drive a truck whose body blocks your view of the road behind, a side mirror is required by law.
You want to add a blue auxiliary light and an exhaust whistle to your truck. Both are illegal: extra lights can't be red or blue, and sirens and exhaust or spark whistles are banned. You could add up to three auxiliary lights and one spotlight in other colors.
Check your understanding
