A 3-minute lesson from the Kansas course. Read the rules and examples, follow the handbook page references, and check your understanding before you move on.
Young Kansas drivers can only drive for certain purposes, at certain times and with limited passengers. The limits loosen as you get older and log more hours. Every stage bans phone use except to report illegal activity or get emergency help.
Instruction permit holders:
May only drive with a licensed adult in the front seat
The licensed adult must be at least 21 years old with at least one year of driving experience
No one but the supervising adult may sit in the front seat
No wireless devices except to report illegal activity or summon emergency assistance
Before a 16–17-year-old can drive under the lesser restrictions, a parent/guardian must sign an affidavit for at least 50 hours of driving, with at least 10 at night.
You're 16 with a restricted license and it's 10 p.m. You may drive home from your job or from an authorized school activity, but a late drive to a friend's house needs a licensed adult in the front seat.
