A 3-minute lesson from the Alaska course. Read the rules and examples, follow the handbook page references, and check your understanding before you move on.
Alaska law requires everyone in a motor vehicle to buckle up. Adults are responsible for themselves; the driver is responsible for every passenger under 16.
Know the rule
AS 28.05.095 requires everyone in a motor vehicle to use a safety belt. Drivers must wear one.
The driver is responsible for all passengers under 16 and may not transport a child under 16 unless the required safety device is provided and each child is properly secured.
The court may waive the $15 adult fine if you donate $15 to an EMS organization listed in the current Alaska Emergency Medical Services Directory, then send the court a copy of the citation and the EMS receipt.
You're driving with a 12-year-old and a 30-year-old passenger, and neither is buckled. You can be fined up to $50 and get two points for the 12-year-old. The 30-year-old gets their own $15 citation.
