A 3-minute lesson from the Vermont course. Read the rules and examples, follow the handbook page references, and check your understanding before you move on.
Because permits and Junior Licenses are provisional, the DMV can recall them for specific violations. A recall takes away your driving privilege for a set time. Learn the codes and their lengths, plus the rule on driving for a job.
Know the rule
For 1 year after your Junior License is issued, or until you turn 18, whichever comes first, you may not drive in the course of your employment. For example, you can't be a pizza delivery driver.
To move up to a Driver's License, a Junior License holder must be 18 and have no recalls, suspensions or revocations in the previous 6 months. That 6-month period starts on the date of reinstatement.
A Junior License holder from another state must prove state-approved driver ed that meets Vermont's requirements and pass eye, written and road tests. The GDL law applies unless they held that license at least 6 months.
You're 17 on a Junior License and get one 3-point speeding ticket. That brings a 90-day JRP recall. You have the right to a hearing. When you're reinstated, a new 6-month clean period starts before you can get a full license at 18.
