DMV can suspend your license for more than bad driving—bounced payments, unpaid child support and insurance violations count too. Getting your license back always costs a fee and may mean retesting.
Child support: owing $1,000.00 or more and being 30 or more days delinquent can suspend your license until the requesting agency sends a release; then a $50.00 reinstatement fee is due.
A bounced check or rejected card payment to DMV brings a penalty fee of up to $25.00. If the amount and penalty aren't paid within 10 days of the certified-mail notice, your license and/or registration is suspended.
Chris lets his car insurance lapse and keeps driving to work. Driving uninsured is grounds for suspension. When the suspension ends he pays a $50.00 reinstatement fee—the $200.00 fee applies only to revoked licenses.
